Why Sports Nutrition?
Anyone who wishes to compete in their chosen sport at a high level will know that there are a huge number of factors which can affect performance. It is essential to ensure you train regularly, maintain peak fitness, avoid injury and mentally and physically prepare for competition. All these elements of sporting performance are hugely influenced by what you eat.
Depending on the nature of the sport, the following areas are likely to be addressed when working on improving performance:
- Training
- Preparation for competition
- Recovery
- Hydration
- Mental alertness, concentration, decision-making
- Maintenance of body far percentage
- Weight loss/gain
How Does It Work?
For anyone wishing to work on a one-to-one basis the consultation process works in exactly the same way as for a normal consultation.
Alternatively it can often be more appropriate to work with teams or groups of athletes together. This can be done in a workshop setting or perhaps as a series of talks and has the benefit of allowing people to share ideas and use each other for motivation.
Personal Experience
Claire has been a passionate sportswoman all her life and she participates in physical activity at every possible opportunity! While studying Sport at Durham University she represented the British Universities at lacrosse and after graduation played for both the England U21s and Senior England Bs.
Since leaving University and moving to London she has completed both the New York and London marathons and she continues to play lacrosse and tennis regularly. More recently she has taken up yoga and benefited enormously from this both in terms of physical conditioning and from the relaxing effects of practice.
Claire's sports degree, personal experience and nutrition qualifications place her in an excellent position to work with athletes who wish to improve their performance. She has experience working with several England lacrosse players, junior elite lacrosse players and a number of individual athletes. Claire is also helping a team of four adventurers prepare for an unsupported ski to the Geographic South Pole, taking them on a new 1000 mile route.
